We fast every year for Purtassi and every year I go all out with veggie meals so that out fasting period is enjoyable. This year I have worked on a Purtassi series which I will be sharing everyday. A vegetarian meal with a recipe that you can try out at home. I also have a South Indian Dosa & Idilli series in that time which I hope you will try out. According to many legends this is the reason why we fast: “According to one legend, Lord Vishnu came to earth in the month of Purtassi. The form he acquired was that of Lord Balaji. Therefore, devotees flock to the Tirupati temple at this time of the year. According to another legend During this month, long time ago in South India there was a bad drought, it had not rained for some time, there were no crops for harvest and people were heading for starvation. The people turned to prayers and made vows to the Lord they worshipped called Vishnu. Thereafter there came rains and fresh harvest could be produced.
