Visiting the Zugspitze was one of the (many!) highlights of our trip in Bavaria last year. At 2962m the Zugspitze is Germany’s highest mountain. You can access the summit via the world record holding Zugspitze cable car or the cogwheel train and the Gletscherbahn cable car. I recommend choosing the latter: start with a scenic journey on the cogwheel train from Garmisch-Partenkirchen to the Zugspitze Plateau at 2600m, from here take a small cable car to the summit where you can enjoy breathtaking views across the German and Austrian Alps with a cup of coffee and a fresh croissant (or a pint of 🍺).
