Part I: 𝘓𝘢𝘷𝘻 In Afghanistan, and for many central and south Asian cultures, it is custom for the groom and his family to formally ask for the bride-to-be’s hand from her father. The acceptance of the proposal is called a “𝘓𝘢𝘷𝘻.” For this first new chapter in my life, I wanted everyone who loves and cares for me to accept the proposal together. Each member of my family has been so integral to my upbringing and who I am today, and in my heart each of them have a role in this special moment.
