It's basically a medallic issues and never circulated. But it became the Iconic numismatic symbol for a totally devastating Hyper Inflation. The Hyperinflation officially started in Berlin January 6th 1923. The city government increased the monthly rent for a public food market stall from 60 to 28000 Marks. Prices were exploding every day beginning of this day in a exponentially rate. The Inflation was a finally failing attempt to get rid of the Versailles treaty reparation payment obligations. The government started printing money to influence the exchange rates to Pound Sterling Franc and Dollar to make the payments more easy for Germany. It didn't work and fired back, destroyed the German economy, radicalized the population and made the French government furious. The reparation payments were calculated on the base of the exchange rate in Gold Mark on the base of the year 1914. After stabilizing the German currency and a monetary reform November 1923, one Billion paper Mark were exchanged into one New Renten, later Reichsmark. One US Dollar was 4.2 Billion( US Trillion) Mark, later 4.20 Mark like 1914. Jaeger N 28 The Westphalia Notgeld Series was huge, it started with 50 Pfennig and ended up with a Billion. Most never made it into circulation, primarily medallic issues. The Billion was issued after the end of the Inflation as a Commemorative Medal.
