I have received a few messages telling me to be careful with Santi around our flock. The intention is good and I agree that it is immensely important to protect your animals and integrate a dog carefully and correctly with your flock, but…. Our golden Santi has 0 prey drive and he is truly a lover and not a fighter. If two people are arguing or raise their voices (even on TV) Santi runs to the other room. If a rooster gets too feisty with a hen, Santi slowly walks away. Even trash bags startle him. He avoids conflict at all costs (maybe some of you can relate 😂) but he adores our flock and has the sweetest pup heart around. When the baby chicks were in the brooder, he would sit and watch them for hours. So no he is not a livestock guardian dog.
