It actually came into existence when water was diverted for the hydroelectric station changed the landscape. Now there are these beautiful falls AND renewable energy, what a win win!! To get here, you enter the Icelandic highlands and F roads, meaning you MUST HAVE 4wd on your car. We recommend all the car insurance too as these roads are full of gravel and rocks. This is actually a super easy hike to get too, about 15-20 min of flat terrain from the car park just past the hydroelectric station. An absolute must stop for any trip to the highlands.
