Every. Child. Matters. The Boarding School Era is a difficult and painful history that has had a long-lasting impact on our people, families, communities and culture. We still don’t know the true number of children forced to attend these schools, the number of children who were abused, died, or went missing while at these schools. But our cultures survived; we will never give up on repairing the harm done to our people, communities, and way of life. Our Community & Behavioral Services Healing Center is here to help. If you or a loved one are struggling with mental health or substance use issues related to generational trauma, reach out for help. #Tlingit #Haida #Indigenous #NativeTikTok #BoardingSchools #OrangeShirtDay #EveryChildMatters Learn more: https://cbs.ccthita-nsn.gov/

Chubby harbor seals take a break on a sandbar at low tide in Juneau, AK. They’re full of chum salmon this time of year and love lounging in the sun. #Tlingit #Haida #TraditionalFood

Gunalchéesh, Háw’aa to everyone who shared their knowledge at the Moananuiākea cultural exchange this week. Tlingit & Haida staff showed how to process a deer, render oil from seal fat and fillet and jar king salmon. Sharing our knowledge across cultures makes us stronger as Indigenous people and helps carry on the traditions of our ancestors. #Tlingit #Haida #NativeTikTok #Indigenous #TraditionalFoods #KingSalmon #SealOil #DeerMeat

Fishermen in Southeast Alaska are in danger of losing their king salmon trolling season. A Seattle-area federal district court judge recently issued a ruling in favor of a Washington-based conservation group’s lawsuit to close the fishery. Tlingit & Haida is ready to defend the troll fishery, small fleet of fishermen and women, and our communities that rely on this sustainable fishery. If you are a tribal citizen permit holder and would like to provide a testimonial on how your livelihood is being impacted by this ruling, please share your contact information. The Wild Fish Conservancy’s misguided lawsuit will affect Alaska’s fishermen, including the troll fishing fleet, processors and the support sector by shutting down the trolling season in Southeast Alaska. Please stand with Tlingit & Haida and sign this statement of support for the sustainable Alaska hook and line fishing industry, trollers, their families and their communities. This week, hundreds of Alaskans welcomed the Polynesian Voyaging Society as the Hōkūleʻa crew came ashore at Auke Rec. Tlingit & Haida President Richard Chalyee Éesh Peterson was one of several Indigenous leaders who thanked the crew for beginning their four-year Moananuiākea voyage in Alaska. “When I look at our Hawaiian ohana, my heart is filled to see you,” President Peterson said. #Tlingit #Haida #AlaskaNative #NativeHawaiian #NativeTikTok

Tlingit & Haida’s Haa Yoo X̲’atángi Kúdi Lingít language immersion preschool is now accepting applications for the 2023/2024 school year. As you can hear in this video, lead teacher Daaljíni Cruise and her team only use the Lingít language in the classroom. The work they do with these kiddos is so important to keep our Indigenous language thriving! Register online: tinyurl.com/HYXKRegistration #Tlingit #Haida #AlaskaNative #NativeTikTok #Indigenous
